2 million foreign visitors travel to VN in Q1

VGP – Viet Nam welcomed more than two million foreign arrivals in the first quarter of this year, an annual drop of 13.7%, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

Some 1.7 million travelled by air, 18,058 by sea and 298,350 by road, reducing 8%, 36.7% and 35.8% from 2014, respectively.

In the reviewed period, the tourism sector recorded an increased flow of visitors from the Republic of Korea, Finland, Spain, Singapore, Italy, the US, Japan and Germany.

In the first three months, the number of domestic visitors is estimated at 19.5 million and the tourism sector earned VND96,359 billion in revenue, a year-on-year increase of 1.9%.

Despite the overall decrease in the number of travellers, the sector earned more than VND96.3 trillion ($4.5 billion), up 1.9% from the same period of 2014.
