65th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory celebrated

A ceremony was held Tuesday in Son La province to celebrate the 60th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's visit to the ethnic people in northwestern region and the 65th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory.

On May 7, 1959, President Ho Chi Minh met with soldiers and local ethnic people in Thuan Chau district, Son La province. He praised achievements in the province during the resistance wars, particularly the historic victory of the Dien Bien Phu campaign which ended the French colonial rule in Vietnam.

Quang Van Lai, who lives in Quyet Thang ward, Son La city, said: To honor Uncle Ho's love for the northwestern region, we should unite to contribute to Son La city's development.

Secretary of the Son La provincial Party Committee Hoang Van Chat said the province has upheld national solidarity, exploited its potential, and attained some important social achievements by following President Ho Chi Minh's teaching.

In Hanoi, the Youth Union of the Border Guard Command and the Hai Ba Trung district's Veterans Association presented gifts to 20 participants of the Dien Bien Phu campaign. Major Truong Lam Toi, Head of the Youth Union Department of the Border Guard Command, said: Youth Union members have held meetings, art and cultural exchanges, and other activities to pay tribute to the families of veterans who participated in the historic Dien Bien Phu campaign. With these small gifts, we wish you and your families the best of health, happiness, and prosperity.

The Information and Communications Publishing House has coordinated with historical witnesses and historians to create a book titled 65 years since the Dien Bien Phu victory � a golden milestone. The book includes valuable documents that give the reader an objective look at the 56 days and nights of the Dien Bien Phu campaign.
