Abbas urges Latin America not to follow US example on embassy

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas urged Latin American countries on Monday not to emulate the controversial US decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem.

Speaking at a meeting with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in Caracas, President Abbas said he hoped that countries across Latin America won't relocate their embassies to Jerusalem, insisting that it is against international law.

The United States is pushing ahead with plans to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv on May 14 on the occasion of Israel's National Day. US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman invited countries to attend the embassy's inauguration.
