Anutin Affirms Koh Kood’s Status as Thai Territory Amid MOU 44 Discussions.

Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed in a coalition party meeting that Koh Kood remains an integral part of Thailand. He stated that any decision to cancel MOU 44 must be mutually agreed upon by all parties involved. Anutin emphasized that the Bhumjaithai Party is not dissatisfied with any government projects, reflecting a unified stance on national matters. According to Thai News Agency, Anutin disclosed that the Prime Minister had invited coalition party leaders to deliberate on pending laws and other issues. While the Bhumjaithai Party has yet to propose any specific agenda, Anutin expects the discussions to remain informal yet constructive, following the Prime Minister's advice to address any issues within the coalition framework. Once discussions conclude, relevant information will be shared with the media, underscoring the party's cohesive relationship with the government. Addressing concerns over the three electric train lines, Anutin clarified that he had not encountered any discontent within the coalition government regarding these projects. He reiterated the commitment to collaboration within the coalition parties. On the subject of MOU 44, Anutin, in his capacity as Minister of Interior, confirmed Koh Kood as Thai territory, stating it is part of the Kingdom of Thailand and has been designated as a district in Trat Province. Historical records and a royal command from King Rama V's reign support this territorial claim. Anutin addressed calls to annul MOU 44, emphasizing that such a memorandum functions similarly to a contract; hence, unilateral cancellation is not feasible. Any decision to terminate MOU 44 would require bilateral agreement and careful negotiation. Anutin urged the media to avoid premature conclusions about the potential cancellation of the MOU without due process.
