Australia, US, and UK sign nuclear tech deal

Australian Defence Minister Peter Dutton has signed a formal agreement with the US and the UK to share information on nuclear-powered vessels. The agreement was signed at a ceremony on Monday with US Charge d’Affaires Michael Goldman and UK High Commissioner Victoria Treadell. This important agreement is part of an enhanced trilateral security partnership called AUKUS.

Australia, the UK, and the US formed AUKUS in September. Under this partnership, Washington and London will help Canberra build nuclear-powered submarines, and Australia will become the first non-nuclear country to own nuclear-powered submarines. Australia intends to develop eight modern nuclear-powered subs.
