Bai Choi singing highlighted at festival in Quang Ngai

The “Bai Choi” singing festival opened on Saturday in Quang Ngai city to promote the popular folklore style of singing in the central and south central regions of Vietnam.

The festival featured 21 performances from seven Bai Choi singing clubs who introduced the folk singing genre recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2017. The festival also encourages artisans to preserve and promote the artistic forms.

The Bai Choi songs are about festivals, daily life and work, and are accompanied by musical instruments. Bai Choi is often seen at local spring festivals and resembles a game, using playing cards and village huts.
