Bangkok: The Bhumjaithai Party has affirmed its stance on the issue of amnesty, maintaining that Section 112 should remain untouched. Chaichanok Chitchob, the Member of Parliament for Buriram and party secretary, confirmed that the party does not oppose amnesty itself but insists on protecting Section 112. The remarks came during a review of the party's performance over the past four months, with Chaichanok emphasizing the party's commitment to serving the people and avoiding conflicts with the Pheu Thai Party. According to Thai News Agency, Chaichanok addressed criticisms regarding the Bhumjaithai Party's differing opinions from the Pheu Thai Party on several issues. He clarified that these differences are not intentional obstructions but rather stem from the party's focus on actions beneficial to the public. Chaichanok stressed that all parties within the coalition government share a common goal of achieving progress and development for the people. On the topic of the four impending amnesty bills awaiting parliamentary consideration, Chaichanok reiterated the party's clear principle of not proposing its own bills, as long as Section 112 remains unaffected. He acknowledged not having reviewed the details of the proposed bills but reaffirmed the party's consistent position against granting amnesty in cases related to Section 112. Addressing the potential constitutional amendments, Chaichanok expressed the party's support for amending the constitution through a Constitution Drafting Assembly. However, he emphasized that changes should not impact Chapter 1, Chapter 2, or any sections that do not benefit the public. He highlighted the importance of following the outcomes of the special committee's study on the draft referendum bill, stressing adherence to the principle of a double majority for constitutional changes.
