Boris Johnson calls for December election amid Brexit chaos

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Thursday he will give MPs more time to debate his Brexit deal if they agree to a general election later this year.

If members of Parliament genuinely want more time to study his deal, they can have it, but they have to agree to a general election on December 12, Johnson told TV broadcasters in an interview.

The same day, President-elect of the European Commission Ursula von derLeyen told reporters in Helsinki that if Britain gets an extension and remains in the European Union after the end of the month, then, of course, she will ask the UK to appoint and send a commissioner to Brussels.
