Boris Johnson warns French PM Brexit cannot be delayed

Brexit will not be delayed past October although opposition MPs want an extension of the deadline if no deal is agreed, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson told French President Emmanuel Macron during a phone call on Sunday.

Mr. Johnson said the surrender act and its authors are undermining negotiations, but if EU leaders are betting that it will prevent a no-deal, that would be a historic misunderstanding.

President Macron said negotiations need to be accelerated to evaluate the possibility of a Brexit deal while maintaining EU regulations. Britain's Brexit Minister Stephen Barclay urged the EU to show flexibility and creativity in negotiations before the end of October, the time when Johnson has promised to end the UK's 46-year membership in the EU with or without a deal.
