British government suffers second defeat in House of Lords

British Prime Minister Theresa May met a second defeat on her Brexit bill Tuesday when the House of Lords voted 366 to 268 to amend a bill empowering May to trigger Article 50 of the EU's Lisbon Treaty - the formal notification of Brexit - which she has promised to do by the end of March.

In the absence of a deal between the UK and the EU, the UK would be required to follow World Trade Organisation rules on tariffs.
