British parliament suspended until mid-October

The UK government has suspended Parliament until mid-October, despite a vote blocking a proposed early general election, a spokesperson for Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Monday.

Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth has given final approval to legislation which prevents Prime Minister Boris Johnson from taking Britain out of the European Union on October 31 without an exit deal.

Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow announced he would resign immediately if MPs supported a motion to hold new elections in mid-October.
