Buddhists raise 30 million USD for charity

Vietnamese Buddhist dignitaries and followers have raised nearly 30 million USD to help disadvantaged people, according to a meeting of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha on Tuesday.

The money was mainly used to assist victims of natural disasters, soldiers and the people residing on Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, and to build houses for the poor and ethnic minorities.

We are calling for more financial support for people in need. One of our priorities is to build more charity facilities, hospitals and schools, said Venerable Thich Quang Tung, Vice President of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.
