Can Tho, Netherlands cooperate in automatic garbage collection
The Netherlands' Ocean Cleanup organisation had a working session with leaders of Can Tho city on Tuesday to discuss an automatic garbage collection project in Can Tho.
The project aims to reduce the amount of trash discharged into the sea, causing severe environmental pollution, as well as reducing labour costs in this field. The system consists of boats of about 6m by 18m, the size of a small ferry, that automatically remove floating garbage and stores it in bags for safe disposal later. The system is controlled by an electronic board and cameras connected to the Internet, which allows an operator to control the trash collection using a smart phone. Trash collection boats will use solar energy and automatic sensors. Each boat will cost 300,000-400,000 EUR.
