Chairman of Boao Forum for Asia calls on Asian countries to support globalization

Asian countries should be united to support the process of globalization and achieve a common development.

Former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, who is also chairman of Boao Forum for Asia, made the remarks on Saturday on the sideline of the ongoing Forum in China's Hainan Province. He said at the time when there is an anti-globalization tide in the world, Asian countries should be united. Talking about China's effort in promoting regional economic cooperation, including the "Belt and Road" initiative and the establishment of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Mr. Fukuda confirmed Tokyo's support to the bank to promote regional cooperation and contribute to the world development.

Under the theme "Globalization and Free Trade: The Asian Perspectives", the Boao Forum for Asia 2017 focused on measures to help developed and developing economies to adapt to globalization.
