China, Japan hails positive progress from US, North Korea

China on Friday applauded the positive progress from the US and North Korea in preparing for a bilateral summit in June.

China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said Beijing hopes that the meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore will conclude with positive results to create a major step forward for a denuclearized Korean Peninsula, resolve political tension, and promoting sustainable peace and stability in the region.

On Friday, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe praised the upcoming meeting between the US and North Korean leaders. He said Japan will cooperate with the US, South Korea, China, Russia, and the international community to push a number of issues regarding North Korea in the June summit.
