COP26 concludes with new global deal on climate

The 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change concluded Saturday in Glasgow, the UK, with reaffirmation of limiting global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius under the Paris Agreement. All 197 participating countries adopted the Glasgow Climate Pact.

China and the United States issued a joint declaration on enhancing actions on climate change in the 2020s. They agreed to take steps to reach the net-zero emission goal, and to tackle issues regarding methane emissions, transition to clean energy, and decarbonization.

COP26 saw the commitment of 450 financial institutions, which manage a total of 130 trillion USD assets, or 40% of global private wealth, to using investments that support clean technology such as renewable energy and eliminating funding for fossil fuel industries.
