Countries react to North Korea’s launch of unidentified projectile

South Korea’s National Security Council (NSC) on Wednesday voiced concern about the North Korean launch of an unidentified projectile into the Sea of Japan on the morning of the same day, and called for the resumption of negotiations aimed at de-escalating tensions. State Department spokesman Ned Price said the United States remains committed to achieving lasting peace on the Korean peninsula through dialogue and diplomacy with North Korea.

“To that end, we’ll continue to seek engagement with the DPRK, part of a calibrated, practical approach in order to make tangible progress that increases the security of the United States, our allies, and our deployed forces. That is our ultimate objective,” Mr. Price said in a Department press briefing on Tuesday.

The January 5 launch of the projectile was Pyongyang’s first show of force in 2022. South Korean and US intelligence agencies are working closely to analyze the details of the launch.
