COVID-19 safety protocols put into force

Nearly 340 million COVID-19 infections and 5.6 million deaths had been reported worldwide as of Thursday noon, according to worldometers.info.

The US leads the world in the number of infections (67 million) and the number of deaths (880,000).

Greece has begun fining people who are over 60 and unvaccinated, hoping to improve the immunity of the most vulnerable age group, even though Omicron cases seem to be slowing down.

Beginning March 1, Cyprus will no longer require proof of a negative COVID-19 test for visitors who have been vaccinated or have recovered from COVID-19.

India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Wednesday extended the suspension of international flights to or from India until February 28 because of a third wave of infections thought to be caused by the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

The World Health Organization said there’s a long way to go until the end of the pandemic, and rejected the idea that the Omicron variant doesn’t pose any serious risk.
