COVID-19 severely hits US

235 million people worldwide have infected with COVID-19, 4.8 million of them have died, according to worldometers.info by Sunday noon.

The US tops the world in the number of infections (44.5 million) and deaths (719,000). Given a surge in fatality rate, US President Joe Biden has urged Americans to get vaccinated. Biden said that all the vaccines currently in use are safe, free, and easily accessible.

Germany’s Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has warned EU countries to prepare for the coming months. A COVID-19 spike may arrive in fall and winter, it said. Sharing the same view, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) said the pandemic is likely to resurface this fall primarily because of vaccination reluctance.
