Covid-19: US closes field hospital, Singapore reports hundreds more new cases

A field hospital set up in New York City’s Central Park to treat Covid-19 patients will be closed as the number of new infections have been declined, said Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief organization which runs the field hospital. 

Samaritan’s Purse said the closure marks a significant turning point in the fight against coronavirus in New York.

Singapore’s Health Ministry on Saturday reported another 447 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number to 17,485.

At least 1,506,853 Covid-19 cases including 140,260 deaths have been reported in Europe,.

Spain tops Europe’s list of Covid-19 infections with 242,988 cases. Spain has eased lockdown to allow its people to get out of their homes to exercise and walk freely after 48 days of lockdown on Saturday. Some other restrictions have remained in place.

France has decided to extend a “state of health emergency” imposed to fight the coronavirus pandemic for two months until July 24.

Russia reported 9,623 new cases of infection of the coronavirus on Saturday, said Russia’s Operational Headquarters for the fight against the spread of infection.

Brazil has opened the 2nd field hospital in Rio de Janeiro to treat Covid-19 patients. It’s the biggest one of 9 field hospitals to be built in the city with 500 beds and 100 intensive care rooms.

In China, some public places, tourist sites, and entertainment areas in Beijing remain closed to avoid the spread of the pandemic. On April 30th, the authorities lowered the emergency response level for Beijing as the situation is getting better.
