Cu Chi tunnels seek UNESCO’s recognition

HCM city is compiling a dossier to seek UNESCO's recognition of the Cu Chi Tunnels as a world heritage site.

Municipal authorities are consulting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs while gearing up to complete the necessary procedures.

The tunnels of Cu Chi were built over a period of 25 years that began sometime in the late 1940s. They are an immense network of connecting tunnels used by Vietnamese soldiers as hiding spots during combat. They served as communication and supply routes, hospitals, food and weapon caches.
