Deputy PM approves national strategy on green growth

Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh has approved the “National strategy on green growth for 2021-2030, with a Vision to 2050” with the aim of reducing the intensity of greenhouse gas emissions per GDP, and greening economic sectors.

The strategy aims to boost green growth to promote economic restructuring in association with renovating the growth model toward economic prosperity, sustainable environment, and social equality. It expects to help Vietnam achieve a green and carbon-neutral economy and contribute to the goal of minimizing global temperature rise. The strategy sets a target of reducing the intensity of greenhouse gas emissions per GDP by at least 15% by 2030, and by 30% by 2050, compared to that of 2014.

The strategy sets out the goal of transforming the growth model towards greening economic sectors and promoting high quality and environmentally friendly living standards. Vietnam’s urbanization and new rural development are required to ensure green and sustainable growth. Meanwhile, people are encouraged to establish a sustainable consumption culture to support Vietnam’s international integration.
