Deputy PM: Gov’t supports stronger ties between Vietnam, Singapore courts

Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh said the Vietnamese government supports closer cooperation between Vietnamese and Singaporean courts during a meeting with Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Singapore Sundaresh Menon in Hanoi on Monday.

The Deputy PM said the Singaporean Supreme Court's experience could be helpful to Vietnam's legal and judicial reforms. Mr. Binh said Vietnam is extremely concerned about China's recent actions in the East Sea, which have violated Vietnam's sovereignty and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea, and run counter to China's commitment to maintaining a favorable environment for negotiating a Code of Conduct.

Deputy PM Binh said ASEAN members need to coordinate their stances, sustain the bloc's solidarity, have a common voice, and oppose unilateral actions that infringe international law, violate other nations' rights and legitimate interests, or negatively affect the peace, stability, security, and safety of navigation and aviation in the East Sea.

Chief Justice Menon said Singapore believes in respecting the law and resolving disputes by peaceful negotiations.
