Dien Bien Phu veterans gather in Dien Bien Phu city

PANO � The organizing panel of the cycling tournament Return to Dien Bien Phu � People's Army Newspaper Cup and Mai Linh Group co-held a meeting for Dien Bien Phu veterans in Dien Bien Phu city on May 5, on the sidelines of the cycling tournament.

Present at the meeting were Senior Colonel Phung Kim Lan, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper and Deputy Head of the Standing Organizing Board of the tournament, Ho Huy, President of Mai Linh Group, and veterans of the Dien Bien Phu campaign.

The meeting aimed at educating Vietnamese youths about their grandfathers and fathers' sacrifices 65 years ago for the Fatherland in the Dien Bien Phu campaign.

At the meeting, Sen. Col. Lan briefed the Dien Bien Phu veterans on significant activities of the tournament which runs along historical road sections associated with the resounding victory of the Vietnamese people and army. He underlined that the race also aimed to popularize the meaning of the Dien Bien Phu victory as well as promote public education of the revolutionary tradition among the people, particularly young ones. According to him, the People Army's Newspaper and sponsors conducted a number of activities in paying gratitude to policy beneficiaries, Dien Bien Phu veterans and revolution contributors in the localities where the race passed by.

After three cycling stages, the race has so far been safe and successful, leaving a deep impression on the people of Ha Noi, Hoa Binh, Son La and Dien Bien.

Addressing the meeting, Sen. Col. Lan thanked the local Party Committee, authorities, agencies, organizations and businesses for their support.

At the get-together, the participating Dien Bien Phu veterans recalled their unforgettable memories of old battles in Dien Bien Phu, which strongly impressed the audience.

For his part, Huy said that the tournament is a good chance for the present generation, including Mai Linh Group's employees, to pay gratitude to Dien Bien Phu veterans and those who sacrificed themselves for the national construction and defense cause. The leader of the group took the occasion to wish the Dien Bien Phu veterans good health and that they would continue to educate their offspring about the national heroic tradition of the Vietnamese people and army.
