Duterte calls for nationwide martial law

Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte said Wednesday he may extend martial law from Mindanao to the Visayas region.

He may also extend the martial law to Luzon and the capital city of Manila. He said if IS gets a foothold in Luzon, terrorism will not be far behind and he might have to declare martial law throughout the country to protect the people. A martial law declaration permits arrests without warrant and allows security forces to control movements in Mindanao.
