Eight provinces to join first Thai ethnic group festival

VGP – The first-ever cultural festival of Viet Nam’s Thai ethnic group will take place in the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau from December 27-29.  

Under the theme “Preservation and upholding of the Thai ethnic group’s cultural identity in the new period of international integration and national development,” the event lures the participation of other seven provinces namely Dien Bien, Hoa Binh, Son La, Lao Cai, Yen Bai and Thanh Hoa, Nghe An.


The upcoming event aims to foster the solidarity among the Thai ethnic people and contributes to preserving and upholding traditional cultural heritage of ethnic minority groups.


The festival consists of a series of activities including a show of theThai ethnic group’s traditional costumes; performances of traditional festivals, rituals and cultural practices; displays of cultural and tourist products; and folk dances.


In addition, an exhibition showcasing photos, objects, musical instruments, and ancient books of the Thai people will be on display.  


Documents, publications and pictures on the daily life and traditional craft villages of the Thai group will be introduced to visitors.


Visitors will have an opportunity to take part in a wide range of sporting events, including stick pushing, ‘Con’ (cloth ball) throwing, ‘to ma le’ (throwing seeds of ‘ma le’ fruit), and crossbow shooting.


The opening of the festival will be broadcast live on December 27 on Viet Nam Television Channels 2 and 5 while the closing ceremony will be aired live on December 28 on Lai Chau provincial Television.


The event is expected to advertize local tourism potentials to tourists./.
