The Vietnamese Embassy in South Africa has advised Vietnamese citizens residing and doing business there to closely monitor the situation and avoid traveling to areas that are known to be unstable. South Africa has been coping with rioting and looting in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng province and several other localities. Vietnamese citizens are warned not to travel at night when it is not absolutely necessary and to go home before 8pm. The Embassy also announced an emergency contact number for citizens on its website and social platforms. Vietnamese citizens have so far been safe from the rioting, Vietnam News Agency correspondents in South Africa have reported. More than 2,000 people have been arrested for looting and destroying property in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng province and more than 100 violent deaths have been recorded during the unrest.  The South African Defense Force (SANDF) has deployed 15,000 troops to hotspots. The South African government has met with political parties, religious leaders, tribal leaders, and social organizations to seek a consensus and ask the public to help them restore order and prevent the unrest from spreading to other areas.
