EU prepares 9th package of sanctions against Russia

The EU is preparing its 9th sanctions package against Russia, said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Thursday. In a speech delivered during a visit to the Finnish capital Helsinki, Leyen said the EU, along with the G7 and other partners, will soon approve a price cap on Russian oil.

Last month the EU approved an 8th package of sanctions against Russia which tightened trade restrictions on steel and technology products.

On Wednesday, 15 EU members who had called for a limit on gas prices, rejected the limiting mechanism proposed by the EC.

G7 nations are looking for a price cap on Russian seaborne oil in the range of 65-70 USD per barrel, but the EU countries have not yet reached an agreement on a specific price.
