EU summons Turkish ambassador over Erdogan comments

The European Union on Thursday summoned the Turkish ambassador to explain comments by President Tayyip Erdogan that Europeans will not be able to walk safely on the streets if they keep up their current attitude toward Ankara.

EU spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic said they have asked the Turkish EU ambassador to explain Erdogan's comments.

Escalating tensions between Turkey and some of the EU countries have prompted President Erdogan to say he might reconsider relations with the EU after Turkey's April referendum on constitutional amendments.
