EU urges new Ukrainian President to push reforms

EU leaders Donald Tusk and Jean-Claude Juncker wrote Monday to congratulate president-elect Volodymyr Zelenskiy on his victory in Ukraine's election, but they stressed that they are counting on more democratic reforms and less corruption.

They said that much remains to be accomplished to fully realize the peaceful, democratic, and prosperous Ukraine that its citizens have called for, and added that President Zelenskiy can count on the EU's support for reform, including consolidating the rule of law, fighting corruption, maintaining macro-financial stability, and reforming the energy sector. Tusk and Juncker said they look forward to meeting Zelenskiy soon and encouraged him to continue implementing Ukraine's political and economic deals with the EU.
