European Parliament votes to freeze EU membership talks with Turkey

The majority of lawmakers in the European Parliament on Thursday voted to halt membership talks with Turkey because of Ankara's post-coup crackdown on the opposition.

Austria and Luxembourg have supported halting the negotiations , but Germany, France, and several other EU countries are worried Turkey will stop cooperating with the EU on migrants, as the refugee crisis grows increasingly complicated.
