Fisheries sector focuses on obtaining removal of EC’s yellow card in 2022

The fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU) is the key task of the fisheries sector in 2022, according to the Directorate of Fisheries. The agency of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said it will take uniform solutions to soon get European Commission’s “yellow card” warning removed. The Directorate of Fisheries has advised leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to direct localities to correct the certification of caught seafood and errors to prevent them from affecting the export of aquatic products to the European market.

Vietnam currently has 16 out of 28 coastal provinces and cities certifying the origin of aquatic products caught in the South Central, Southeast and Southwest provinces, mainly for exports to the European market.

Tran Dinh Luan, General Director of the Directorate of Fisheries, said:“The current resource survey as part of the Government programs will give an overview of resource quantity and restructure the number of ships according to resource quantity. This will ensure the efficiency and production results of the fishermen. The income and life of fishermen will be better and comply with the law.”
