Florida man charged in mail-bomb case

Cesar Sayoc, the suspect connected to the mailing of more than a dozen parcel bombs to senior Democrats, has been charged with five federal crimes.

The federal felony charges include interstate transportation of explosives, illegal mailing of explosives, and threats against a former president among others. In a press conference on Friday, US Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Sayoc faced up to 58 years in prison if found guilty.

Sayoc, 56, of Florida, is suspected of waging a mail-bombing campaign aimed at critics of President Donald Trump. Twelve items have been sent to figures like ex-President Barack Obama and actor Robert De Niro.

Sayoc has a history of arrests for theft, illegal steroids possession, and a 2002 charge of making a bomb threat.
