Former Thai PM resigns as head of Democrats after election loss

Former Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva stepped down as leader of the Democrat Party after its poor showing in Sunday's general election.

The Party finished 4th in the voting, with little more than 3 million votes, according to partial results released by the Election Commission with 91 percent of the votes counted. The Election Commission reported that the pro-military party Palang Pracharat, which is seeking to keep junta chief Prayuth Chan-ocha in power, was leading with 7.5 million votes.
