France’s former economy minister runs for presidency

France's former economy minister Emmanuel Macron confirmed plans to stand in the French presidential election, scheduled to take place next year.

He told reporters Wednesday as he launched his campaign in the Paris suburb of Bobigny that he is ready and that's why he is a candidate for the presidency. 38-year-old Macron became a minister thanks to his success in banking. He quit the cabinet in August to prepare for a run at the presidency. Last month, a survey indicated that 49% of respondents support his policy positions.
