French President vows to build a strong nation

Emmanuel Macron pledged to overcome divisions and build a stronger-than-ever France as he was sworn in as France's 25th President at the Elysee palace in Paris on Sunday.

He promised to press for a more efficient, more democratic, and more political European Union, which will serve as a lever for a strong France. Macron said he will do everything necessary to fight terrorism and authoritarianism and to resolve the world's migration crisis.

The same day, Macron appointed Alexis Kohler secretary general of the Elysee palace, the President's right-hand man, and named diplomat Philippe Etienne his top foreign policy advisor. Macron will name a prime minister on Monday and his new government will be announced on Tuesday.
