Government stands firm by set growth target of 6.7% for 2017

Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung says Vietnam's economy saw positive changes in the first 4 months and the government is resolved to achieve economic growth of 6.7% this year and sees that goal as achievable.

Mr. Dung said Vietnam's economy grew 5.1% in the first quarter, suggesting that growth must be at least 7.1% in the 3 remaining quarters to meet the target.

According to Mr. Dung: The most important solutions are to push up crude oil exploitation, deal with 12 inefficient projects, and complete key construction projects. The Prime Minister was particularly keen on the farm produce market, developing agriculture through value chains, high-tech agricultural production, application of advanced technology, and finding ways to realize a credit package of 4.5 billion USD.

At the Government's monthly meeting for April on Thursday, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked ministries and localities to devise a detailed plan to fulfill set targets, in which responsibilities of individuals and units must be specified.

Each ministry and locality should devise solutions to speed up the implementation of their plans, address difficulties, boost production and trade, disburse capital, and secure new markets for domestic consumption and exports, said Mr. Phuc adding It will be essential to develop the processing industry and create a more favorable environment for production and exports.
