Gulf diplomatic tensions escalate

4 Gulf countries have severed ties with Qatar listing specific individuals and entities they say are supporters of terrorism.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and Bahrain listed 59 people including the spritual leader of the Muslim Brothers (MB), Yousef al-Qaradawi, 18 Qataris, 5 Libyans, 26 Egyptians, 3 Kuwaitis, 2 Jordanians, 2 Barhrainis, 1 Emiratis, 1 Saudi Arabian, and 1 Yemeni, according to a joint statement Friday.

Qatari authorities had said they are abiding the Security Council's anti-terrorism resolutions.

Egypt called on the Security Council to investigate accusations that Qatar made a ransom payment of 1 billion USD to a terrorist organization in Iraq for the return of royal family members.

Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said the diplomatic crisis in the Gulf is escalating but that Doha wants a peaceful resolution.
