Humanitarian month of May: Support for poor fishermen, disabled children

During the humanitarian month of May, the Vietnam Red Cross Society works to mobilize 17.4 million USD to help 1 million people in difficult circumstances. The Red Cross is calling for donation to its two key 5-year programs “Safety for poor and disadvantaged fishermen” and “Nutrition for poor and disabled children”.

The Vietnam Red Cross Society aims to provide first aid skills and legal knowledge for crew members and fishermen, build sustainable livelihood models for poor fishing households coupled with marine environmental protection and tourism.  More than 1,200 fishing households living in boats will be provided with decent accommodation, life jackets, and first-aid medicine bags.

The Society aims to ensure essential nutritional food for 1 million poor children, develop and maintain 20 social cafeterias, 20 food banks providing free food for children, and teach how to take care of children at home effectively.

Tran Quoc Hung, Vice President of the Vietnam Red Cross Association, said: “In fact, we have now integrated these activities, focusing on the central coastal provinces with the target group of poor fishermen. In addition, those affected by COVID-19 will also be a priority group in Humanitarian Month 2022 as well as our two key programs.”
