IEP: Iceland is the most peaceful country

Iceland remains the most peaceful country in the world, a position it has held since 2008, according to the 13th edition of the Global Peace Index (GPI) released by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).

Other countries in the top five are New Zealand, Portugal, Austria, and Denmark. The three nations coming last in the list are South Sudan, Syria, and Afghanistan.

The Global Peace Index 2019 ranks 163 countries and territories according to their level of peacefulness, using 23 indicators from trustworthy sources from the United Nations and other entities.
