Indonesia to deploy 47,000 security personnel for election dispute

As many as 47,000 personnel from the Indonesian police, military, and administration have been mobilized to secure important locations in Jakarta on Thursday when the Constitutional Court (MK) is scheduled to announce its ruling on the presidential election dispute.

Security forces will be deployed at key public places, the court, the General Election Commission (KPU), the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), and some embassies.

An Indonesian election was held on April 17 to select the president, vice presidents, and more than 20,000 local and national lawmakers. The presidential race pit incumbent President Joko Widodo and retired general Prabowo Subianto. The General Election Commission said last month that Widodo won. Subianto rejected the result, and filed a complaint with the Constitutional Court.
