Iran’s Supreme Leader rejects negotiation with US

Iran will not negotiate with the US, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said at a Thursday meeting with visiting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Mr. Khamenei said Iran does not trust the US and will not repeat previous mistakes when Iran signed a nuclear deal with world powers in 2015. He said a wise and free country does not negotiate under pressure.

The statement came after US President Donald Trump called for talks with Tehran to create a new nuclear deal, stop missile tests, and reduce Iran's influence in the region.

Abe's visit to Iran is the first by a Japanese Prime Minister over the past 4 decades.
