ISIS claims responsibility for Iraq market bombing

(VOVWORLD) – ISIS claimed responsibility early on Tuesday for a suicide bombing that ripped through a busy market in the Iraqi capital before the Eid Al Adha holiday celebration, killing at least 35 people.

In a message posted to its Telegram channel, the militant group said a suicide bomber detonated his explosive belt in the middle of a crowd in Sadr City, an eastern Baghdad suburb, on Monday night.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi convened an emergency meeting of top security commanders to discuss the attack. Hospitals said the death toll could continue to rise, as many of the injured are in critical condition.
