Italy surpasses China in number of coronavirus deaths

Italy made headlines worldwide when its death toll from Covid-19 surpassed China's. Italy has now recorded more than 3,400 deaths.

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said on Thursday that the current lockdown in Italy will be extended beyond the original April 3 deadline, and said the government is looking at tightening existing restrictions even further.

After health authorities confirmed a death toll of 104 and more than 2,600 coronavirus infections in the UK, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said all schools in the UK will close down from Friday.

In Iran the death toll is over 1,200.

The US State Department has suspended issuing visas to travelers from most of the world's countries.

The National Health Commission (NHC) of China says that, for the second day in a row, no new confirmed or suspected cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Wuhan or Hubei.
