Japan backs environment priorities during Vietnam’s ASEAN Chair

Japan is ready to help Vietnam carry out activities during the 2020 ASEAN Chairmanship Year, particularly activities dealing with plastic waste and marine plastic waste.

This was discussed at a meeting between Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Vo Tuan Nhan and Japanese State Minister of the Environment Sato Yukari in Siem Reap, Cambodia, on Wednesday, on the sidelines of the 15th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on the Environment (AMME 15).

Mr. Yukari discussed priorities of cooperation between Japan and ASEAN and between Vietnam and Japan. Mr. Nhan briefed the Japanese Minister on Vietnam's activities to address plastic waste and asked Japan to continue to help Vietnam with waste treatment technology. He said Vietnam will hold a national conference on solid waste in November and wants Japan to introduce advanced waste treatment technologies that can be applied to Vietnam.
