Japan expects to begin clinical trials for a coronavirus vaccine in July, Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo said on Monday.

Addressing the budget committee in parliament, Abe revealed that work on vaccines is being carried out at several institutions, including the University of Tokyo, Osaka University, and the National Institute of Infectious Diseases.

He said his government intends to approve the anti-flu drug Avigan to treat COVID-19 by the end of this month.
