Japan open to talks with North Korea without preconditions

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Monday that he wants to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un with no conditions attached to resolve the issue of Pyongyang's abductions of Japanese citizens.

Speaking to the press after a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump, Abe said he will not miss out on any opportunities to resolve the abduction issue. He said he should meet with Kim himself and believes no conditions should be attached. The same day, President Trump tweeted that he had had a great conversation with Abe on North Korea and trade issues.
