Japan, US boost space and cyberspace cooperation

Japan and the US will boost cooperation in new areas, including outer space and cyberspace, Japanese Defense Minister Takeshi Iwaya said on Tuesday at a meeting with acting US Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan, adding that Japan wants to strengthen its alliance with the US.

Shanahan said the US wants to discuss with Japan to realize the Indo-Pacific strategy.

The two agreed to promote discussions to develop a detailed policy for Japan-US military cooperation to ensure their dominance in outer space and cyberspace. They stressed the importance of maritime freedom, peaceful resolution of maritime conflicts, and close collaboration with South Korea to denuclearize North Korea.
