Leaders welcome Lao Vice President

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Tran Dai Quang, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan held separate meetings with Vice President of Laos Phankham Viphavanh in Ha Noi on July 18.

The meetings were organized on the occasion of Lao Vice President's visit to Viet Nam for celebrating the 55th anniversary of Viet Nam-Laos diplomatic ties and the ceremony marking 40 years since the signing of the Viet Nam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.

At the meeting with Lao Vice President, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has said Viet Nam and Laos should continue working to deepen their political ties, coordinate closely in defense, security, and external affairs, improve economic, cultural, education, scientific and technological links, and step up ministry, sector and locality affiliations.

The two sides should be proactively implementing productively reached agreements, coordinate in soundly organizing activities of the Viet Nam-Laos Friendship and Solidarity Year 2017, and disseminate widely the bilateral special friendship among their young people, and friends worldwide, he noted.

State President Tran Dai Quang informed Lao Vice President Phankham Viphavanh that the Party Central Committee's Secretariat held a conference in May to instruct ministries, agencies and localities to implement the Viet Nam-Laos high-level Agreement with an aim of making the bilateral ties work in the people's interest.

He expressed his belief that under the leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the Lao people would continue successfully implementing Resolution adopted by the 10th National Party Congress and the eighth five-year socio-economic development plan.

Hosting a reception for visiting Vice President of Laos Phankham Viphavanh, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc expected that the two sides will strengthen educating young generations on preserving the special bilateral relations, boost people-to-people exchange, and accelerate investment and trade.

The PM expressed his hope that both countries should continue reforming their mechanisms, laws and policies to make new strides in international integration and share their experience in the effort.

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Nganand Laos's Vice President Phankham Viphavanh have agreed that cooperation via Party, State, ministry, sector, locality and people channels between Viet Nam and Laos has reaped efficient benefits.

Ms. Ngan thanked Laos for presenting its National Golden Medal to senior Vietnamese leaders on this occasion, saying the noble award has great significance, demonstrating vividly the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

At the meetings with the Vietnamese high-ranking leaders, Phankham Viphavanh was delighted that the growing Laos-Viet Nam ties have brought tangible benefits for the two countries' people, and thanked Viet Nam for its immense and productive help to Lao people.

He asserted that Laos will work together with Viet Nam to foster, preserve, and promote the special Laos-Viet Nam relations to pass it on younger generations, and implement reached agreements efficiently.
