Libya sets dates for presidential, parliamentary elections

Imad al-Sayeh, head of Libya's Election Commission, confirmed on Sunday that the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections will be held before next September 30.

Al-Sayeh said 1 million voters have already been registered, and the number is increasing. Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya, Ghassan Salame, in September proposed an action plan to end the Libyan political crisis. The plan includes amending of the current Libyan political agreement and holding parliamentary and presidential elections.

Since the 2011 uprising that toppled Muammar Gaddafi's regime, Libya has been struggling to make a democratic transition amid political division and unrest.
